What this means for people

A rise can mean more people may soon be looking for work. These are plans, not jobs already lost.

An employer in Great Britain must tell the Insolvency Service if it proposes to make 20 or more people redundant at one workplace within 90 days. It does this on an HR1 form. The figure adds up the jobs on forms received in the month.

Employers give a best estimate, and plans can change. Some people may be found other work, or leave on their own. Rounds of fewer than 20 people at one workplace are left out.

How to read this

Not fully checked

The Insolvency Service has not fully checked these figures, and they can change.

Not all of these jobs go

These are proposed redundancies that employers must report. Not all of them happen.

A few large employers can swing a month

One form can list a very large number of jobs. That can make a single month much higher than a typical month.

Counted when the form arrives

Each form is counted in the month it is received, not when the job losses would happen.

Great Britain only

The figures cover England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is not included. Live in Northern Ireland? SeeNorthern Ireland redundancies
